MONDAY MUSINGS - Don't Let Pain Stop You!

By Island Rehab Hub

Bite-sized tips to get you thinking on a Monday. This week, we highlight what you can do if you’re not performing at your best due to pain and/or discomfort.

‘Don’t let pain and niggles stop you performing the way you want.’

Here at Island Rehab Hub we’re seeing more and more referrals of clients who may not technically be ‘injured’, but are not performing as they’d like due to pain, discomfort and/or persistent niggles. 👎

Incidentally, we call these people ‘high-functioning dysfunctionals’ 😄

What YOU can do about it:

✅ Ask your personal trainer to modify your technique or the particular exercise that you’re struggling with. In many cases a simple technical change makes all the difference, and nearly every exercise can be regressed (made easier) or performed in a slightly different way that may give you some relief.

✅ Avoid the area/s that are hurting and exercise those areas that aren’t. We recommend this isn’t a long-term solution and a referral to another professional may be necessary.

✅ Ask your personal trainer to refer you to a suitable health professional who’s best placed to identify the underlying causes. In most cases, a ‘Corrective Exercise Specialist’ will be able to do this for you and work with your trainer to create a management plan.
